Tsekhovskaya Varvara Nikolaevna (nee Menshikova) was born on the 9th of November, 1872 in Bobrov, Voronezh, Russian Federation, into the family of nobles. Her father served in the Kargopol Dragoon Regiment, which was stationed in the city of Bobrov.
Varvara Nikolaevna studied at the female gymnasium (Kremenchuk, Poltava Oblast, Ukraine).
Since 1899 Varvara Nikolaevna settled in the city of Saint Petersburg, worked in the library. Author of books published in Saint Petersburg: "Essays and Stories" (1903, 1912), "Without Illusions" (1911), "Chains. - Before Dawn" (1911) and others. She constantly collaborated with the children's magazine "Soulful Word" (1900-1916). The last publication dates back to 1923.
