In 1958, Prabhu received his Bachelor of Science at Karnatak University. He also received a Bachelor of Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science in 1962, a Master of Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1963, and a Doctor of Science in 1966.
He has taught at UTA since 1991. Professor Prabhu specializes in teaching and researching digital communication systems
Prabhu is a Life Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, is a recipient of Alfred Hay Gold medal from the Indian Institute of Science (1961), Centennial Medal of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (1984), Robert Q. Lee Excellence in Teaching award from Utah-Arlington (1998), and has more than 30 years of experience as member of technical staff at Bell laboratories
