Vasilii Fedorovich Malyshkin


Vasilii Malyshkin, USSR General.


Malyshkin, Vasilii was born in 1890 in Novocherkassk. Son of a bookkeeper.


Graduated from the Red Army Academy.


Took part in World War I as a lieutenant. Took part in the Civil War in the Red Army. Met and became a close friend of Esenin, who once said that Malyshkin could recite his poems better than he could himself.

Chief-of-staff in the Siberian military district, 1937. Arrested during the purge of the Red Army. Interrogated, tortured, brought back to his cell unconscious several times.

Sent to the Gulag. Because of his iron will, survived and never signed the ‘confession’. Together with other officers, released at the beginning of World War II and sent to the front. Chief-of-staff of the 19th Army.

Taken prisoner by the Germans near Viaz’ma, 1942. Joined General Vlasov and became one of his closest aides. After World War II, handed over by the Americans toSMERSH, 1945.

Brought to the Lubianka, tried and hanged.
