From age 11 worked as errand-boy in an office and at a leather workshop in Moscow. 1914-1918 private at the front, wounded. 1913 first work published.
1918-1919 associate, Literature Studio, Moscow Branch of the Proletarian Culture Organisation Later joined Kuznitsa (The Smithy) lit group. PuЫ: collected verse: Vosstaniye (The Revolt) (1919).

Autobiographical poem "The Blue” (1922) reflected the destruction of the old country way of life and sharp class struggle during the New Economy Policy period. Lyric works influenced by Blok, Yesenin and Mayakovskiy.
