After graduate dissector, Chair of Anatomy, Moscow University. Simultaneously international Staro-Yekaterinskaya Hospital and postgraduate student, Professor Ostroumov’s Clinic of Internal Diseases.
During 1870’s was also active in Pirogov Social. 1879 defended doctor’s thesis on fat embolisms of the lungs. In same year helped to organize quarantine measures to prevent spread of plague into Moscow from Vetlyanka.
From 1880 associate professor, Chair of Pathological Anatomy, Moscow University. 1881 — 82 worked in Germany and France under Cohnheim, Struempel and Charcot. From 1880 extraordinary professor, Chair of Pathological Anatomy, Moscow University.
1894-1898 professor, Chair of Special Pathology and Therapy, from 1898 director, Faculty Therapy Clinic, Moscow University. 1910 and 1912 read papers on endocrinology at session of Moscow Therapeutic Social and 3rd Congress of Therapists. 1912, together with other professor, resigned from Moscow University in protest against policies of Education Minister Kasso.
Founder-member and chairman, from 1913 Honorary chairman, Moscow Therapeutic Social. From 1918 member. Learned Medical Council, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Health. From 1919 director, Laboratory of Thyroidectomized Goats (later Institute of Organotherapeutic Drugs, then All-Union Institute of Experimental Endocrinology).
From 1922 also worked at Student Polyclinic. 1925 founded Moscow Endocrinological Social. Founder, Russian Social of Therapists.
Chairman, Tuberculosis League. 1929 read paper on treatment of Basedow’s disease at 10th Congress of Therapists.
