Composed mainly songs. At beginning of World War II organized agitation brigade “Yastrebok”. Concert performances with this brigade at front and in rear.
1946 criticized at Plenum, Organization Committee, USSR Union of Composers, for preponderance of lyrical over heroic element in his work and for “catering to backward tastes”. Criticized again at 2nd Board Plenum, at meeting of Union of Composers and at 1949 Board Plenum. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1950, 1954 and 1958 convocation.
