Studied at History and Philology Faculty, Moscow University.
Began writing verse at age 13. 1916 first work printed. 1919-1921 worked for Press Bureau, Revol Military Council and for Military Department, Russian Telegraphic Agency Agitation Division, writing stories, articles, feuilletons, ditties for frontline newspapers and slogans for agitation trains.
Also studied at History and Philology Faculty, Moscow University. From 1922 contributed to “Rabochaya gazeta”, “Krest’yanskaya gazeta”, “Gudok” and journal “Krasnoarmeyets”. Later worked for journal “Krokodil”, to which he contributed for 12 years.
Wrote many lit parodies, satirical tales, feuilletons and mass songs. From 1929 wrote revues for “Blue Blouse” Theater and for workers’ amateur theatrical groups. During World War 2 served in Soviet Navy.
Deputy, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Supreme Soviet of 1st and 2nd convocations.
Communist Party member from 1940.
