Vasily Fedorovich was a commander of a mortar company of the 438th Infantry Regiment (3rd Army, 3rd Belorussian Front). He distinguished himself in a battle near Heiligenbeil (now the village of Mamonovo, Kaliningrad Region) on March 23, 1945, during the storming of enemy fortifications. Captain Kiryanov was killed in this battle.
