In 1862 Vasilij Andreev-Burlak graduated from the Simbirsk Gymnasium. He was a guest student at Kazan Univeristy for quite some time.
Starting from 1863 Vasily Nikolaevich was in the Commercial Navy on the Volga river. He started as a second in command and then became a captain on a passage "Burlak".
As Vasily Nikolaevich was an improviser and an impersonator, he often played in amateur dramatics on a passage. In 1868 he had his debut on a real stage. In 1883 along with Modest Ivanovich Pisarev he created a show called "The first work of Russian actors" and toured across Povolzh'je cities.
Vasily Nikolaevich was a director and in his lecture "The stage and life" (1886) he had some ideas that were really similar to Stanislavski's system. In the 1980s he was interested in art and music.
