Since 1931 Vasily Nikolaievich lived in the city of Ertil, where he graduated from the factory apprenticeship school (1936).
In the postwar years Vasily Nikolaievich Silin worked in Chisinau. One of the organizers of the Republican Union of Artists, director of the Art Museum of the Moldavian SSR (now Republic of Moldova) (in the early 1950s). In the late 1950s he returned to the city of Ertil, worked as the head of the regional department of culture.
Since 1972 Vasily Nikolaievich lived in the city of Lipetsk. In 1990-2004 he donated 38 of his works to the Ertil Museum of Local Lore (genre compositions of military subjects, landscapes).
