Graduated HistoricoPhilological Faculty, Odessa Senior Courses for Women.
1920's joined group of constructionist poets, Selvinsky, Baritsky etc. 1932 in article “My Fifteen Years” declared ideas of this group “erroneous”. Travelled in Germany, Scandinavia, France and Iran.
1941-1944 as war correspondent in besieged Leningrad wrote for “Leningradskaya pravda” and Red Army newspapers. Prior to 1954 Congress of USSR Union of Writers published in section “What Do We Expect From the Congress” of “Literaturnaya Gazeta” an article “The Rights and Duties of a Poet”, in which she criticized absence of thought in Soviet lyric poetry and severity of Soviet critics towards poets, protesting that verse of such prominent poets as, for instance, Pasternak “were analyzed by vulgar methods”. 1954 at assembly of Moscow writers criticized “administrative and directive” tenor of criticism.
