Vernon Schubel became a graduate of Oklahoma State University, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 1978. In 1980 he received Master of Arts from University of Virginia, and in 1986 Doctor of Philosophy from the same university.
Mr. Schubel was a member of Urdu Language Program in Pakistan of University of California, Berkeley, from 1981 to 1982. He was an instructor in philosophy and religion at James Madison University, Harrisonburg, VA, in 1984. Between 1984 and 1987 Mr. Schubel held the post of an assistant professor of religion at Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant.
Vernon Schubel joined the staff of Kenyon College, Gambier, OH, firstly, working as an assistant professor, a bit later associate professor of religion, since 1988, and head of department, from 1992 till 1994. Mr. Schubel was appointed lecturer at Miami University, Oxford, OH, 1987, and University of Washington, Seattle, 1990. He also was a guest on television programs.
His work represented in anthologies, including The Muslim Family of North America, University of Alberta Press, 1991; Making Muslim Space, University of California Press; and The Peoples, Culture, and His tory of Islam, Gale. He is also a contributor of articles and reviews to periodicals.
