Two daughter Gazetted 1865. 7th Dragoon Guards, Royal Horse Artillery, and 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers), with which latter regiment he served through the Afghan War, 1879-1880 (medal). Was principal Veterinary Officer, Chitral Relief Force, 1895 (despatches, Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, medal and clasp).
Subsequently, till retirement, 1897, was principal Veterinary Officer, Punjab Army, India.
Rewarded by promotion from Veterinary Lieutenant-Colonel to Veterinary Colonel (1902) for services during operations in South Africa, and received the thanks of Earl Roberts, Com mander-in-Chief. Companion of the Distinguished Service Order 1896.
Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
Spouse 1870, Annie Maria,daughter of John Cruikshank of Ecclefechan, Dumfries.
