Career
After 1922 Aleixandre started to have serious problems with his health and in a few years he became semi-invalid.This forced him to abandon law career and concentrate instead on writing poetry. In 1928 he make his début with a crystalline collection of poems of nature and love - "Ambito". Almost at that time he began to read the works of Sigmund Freud, whose influence is seen in the collection "Passion of the Earth" (1935). In the 1930s like the others of Generation 1927 Aleixander went through a surrealistic period. During the Civil War and fascist dictatorship he remained in the country. Although Aleixander wasn't political poet, his works were banned in the postwar years because of his antifascist beliefs and his independence from the official regime. Aleixandre's works were reinstated during the 1940s. As one of the few representatives of the earlier period still living in Spain, Aleixandre served as an inspiration to younger generations of Spanish poets, who viewed him as a great master.
