Quotations:
"Baseball’s long-held position as the national pastime remains solid, despite the rising popularity of other sports. Only baseball can offer such an abundant number of talented former players, managers, and teams whose fame thrives decades after their superb accomplishments. Joe DiMaggio no longer glides with grace in Yankee Stadium’s ‘Death Valley’ to snare fly balls; Jackie Robinson’s intimidating base-running no longer frustrates opposing ball clubs; Jimmie Foxx’s powerful pokes and pleasant personality are part of the past. The memories of their superb feats remains, nonetheless."
"Baseball history, and history in general, have always fascinated me, which, more than anything else, is reflected in my writing. As long as there are wonderful stories to be told of heroic figures struggling to earn a living by doing what they enjoy more than anything else, I guess I’ll keep writing about them."
Debs is a member of the Society for American Baseball Research.
Debs married Lola Kashov on June 28, 1980. The couple produced a child Jackie.
