Career
He is best known for his contributions to the development of Information technology. He received the Government of Hong Kong in 2001, and he is a fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. Professor Li is currently chair professor and head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of the University of Hong Kong (HKU).
He also serves as Managing Director of Versitech Limited.
He is also on the boards of SUNeVision Limited., China.com Limited., and Anxin-China Holding Limited. Professor Li also chairs the Executive Committee, HKU Initiative on Clean Energy and Environment.
From 2007 to 2012, he served as Associate Dean of Engineering at HKU. Before joining HKU in 1997, he was a professor of electrical engineering (Electrical engineer) at the University of Southern California ( University of Southern California) and director of Information Sciences Institute of University of Southern California. He chaired the Computer Communications Technical Committee of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Communications Society from 1987 to 1989, and the Los Angeles Chapter of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Information Theory Group from 1983 to 1985.
