SOCHAVA, Victor was born in 1905.
1924 graduated Leningrad Agriculture Institute.
Specialist in the vegetation and landscapes of various parts of the USSR. Proposed system for classifying vegetation along ecological-geographical and genetic lines. Worked out principles for classifying regions according to geobotanic and landscape characteristics.
Directed compilation of “Geobotanic Map of the USSR”. 1924-1926 instructor, Leningrad Agriculture Institute. 1926-1936 and since 1943 associate, Botany Institute, USSR Academy of Science.
1931-1935 simultaneously at Reindeer-Breeding Institute, All-Union Lenin Academy, of Agriculture Science. 1935-1938 Head, ReindeerBreeding Department, Arctic Institute. 1939-1950 instructor, Herzen Pedagogical Institute, Leningrad.
1938-1950 instructor, since 1950 Professor, Leningrad University.
