Background

BAKAEV, Viktor was born in 1902 in Port Berdyansk.

Education

1921-1925 studied at Party School and Kharkov Workers’ Faculty. 1929 graduated Moscow Institute of Transport Engineering.

Career

1929-1937 worked on repair and expansion of Azov and Black Sea ports. 1937-1942 lecturer, Moscow Institute of Transport Engineering. Head of a Chair, Leningrad Institute of Water Transport Engineering and instructor, Kalinin Polytechn.

Institute; during World War II organized supply of Leningrad via Lake Ladoga. 1943-1945 Collegium member, and Director, Main Port Board, USSR Minister of Merchant Marine. 1945-1954 USSR Deputy Minister of Merchant Marine.

Simultaneously supervised restoration of ports destroyed during the war.

Religion

Member, Communist Party, since 1919.
