1892 graduate Saratov boys’ high-school. 1904 graduate Saint St. Petersburg Military-Mcd Academy.
From 1892 worked together with G. V. Plekhanov in Saratov revol circles. After entering Military-Medical Academy continued revol work in Saint St. Petersburg with K. M. Takhtaryov, V. P. Invashin, M. Ya. Sitnikov, North. East. Bauman, et cetera
1895 joined Marxist movement and was coopted to Central Committee, League for the Liberation of the Working Class, most of whose members (including Lenin) were arrested. 1896 and 1897 took part in Saint St. Petersburg workers’ strikes. March 1897 arrested for involvement in student demonstration after the suicide of student M. F. Vetrovaya in Pcler-Paul Fortress.
1899 exiled to Eastern Siberia for five years after spending nine months in prison and 13 months under investigative custody. Spent exile in Yakutsk, where he taught, did medical work and wrote for journal “Vostochnoyc obozreniye”. 1902 joined East. Toll’s polar expedition to the Novosibirsk islands and Sannikov Land.
In the course of the expedition covered 3,000 kilometers on horse and sledge, traveling along the Lena and Aldan, through the Upper Kolyma and Verkhoyansk regions, along the River Yana and the Arctic littoral. Visited many Arctic islands with the Mississippi Zarya 1904 obtained medical qualifications at Military-Medical Academy after return from exile. Drafted into army and sent to Japanese front as junior surgeon, 88th Petrine Infantry Regiment
After Russo-Japanese War opened medical practice in Saint St. Petersburg and worked as a physician at Okhtinskiy Gunpowder Works, where he resumed rcvol activities. From 1908 specialized in otolaryngology. 1913 studied otolaryngology' in London and attended International Medical Congress.
1914 drafted into army and appointed intern, Ear Department, Nikolay Military Hospital, Saint St. Petersburg. At this time joined Literature Social, to which Gorky also belonged. 1917 treated Lenin in Petrograd.
1918 medical adviser, then head, Bureau of Medical Expertise, Petrograd Province Health Department. Head, Petrograd Bureau, Social Insurance Committee. In latter years of life senior associate, Leningrad Institute of Mother and Child Care.
Also worked at Otophonctic Institute and Institute of Occupational Diseases, where he lectured on otolaryngology. Wrote numerous works on soc insurance, otolaryngology, exploration, reminiscences of the Rcvol and lit works. Published articles in medical journals and in such journals as Voprosy strakhovaniva, Katorga i ssylka, Mir Bozhiy and Byloye.
Also wrote a book on the Saint St. Petersburg strike of 1896 entitled Istoricheskaya staclika (A Historic Strike) (1926).
