1918 served with his father in Red Army in defense of Tsaritsyn. From 1923 in Soviet Air Force. 1936-1937 pilot, flight commander, then squadron commander with bomber units of Spanish Republic Air Force.
1937-1939 commanded Air Force operations group. Deputy, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Supreme Soviet of 1937 convocation.
