Honoured Master of Sports (gymnastics), 1971. With the Central Sports Club of the Army. USSR champion, 1967-1972.

European champion, 1969, 1971 and 1973. Olympic champion, 1972. Overall USSR champion, 1974.

Bronze medal, 1968. Silver medal, 1972.

Achievements

  • Klimenko competed for the Soviet Union at the 1968 Summer in Mexico City where he received a silver medal in team combined exercises and a bronze medal in parallel bars. He represented the Soviet Union at the 1972 Summer in Munich where he received a gold medal in pommel horse, and silver medals in vault and team combined exercises. He received a silver medal in vault and a bronze medal in pommel horse at the 1970 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Ljubljana.
