Viktor Klimenko was born on the 25th of February, 1949 in Moscow, Russian Federation.
He graduated from the Moscow Region State University in 1972.
Klimenko was a Champion of the Olympic Games in Munich (1972, exercises on the pommel horse), silver (1972 - vault, 1968 and 1972 - team championship) and bronze (1968 - exercises on parallel bars) Olympic medalist. He was a silver (1970 and 1974 - team championship, 1970 - vault) and bronze (1970 - exercises on the pommel horse) medalist of the world championships. He became an absolute European champion twice: in 1971 and 1973. He was a champion (1969 - vault, exercises on the horizontal bar, 1973 - exercises on rings and parallel bars) and multiple winner of European championships and an Absolute champion of the USSR (1974). Repeated winner and medalist of the USSR championships in certain types of all-around.
Since 1992 he lives in Germany, working as a coach.
Klimenko is married to Larisa Petrik - a former Olympic gymnast.
