Joined the Soviet Navy, 1937. Served on destroyers in the Black Sea, and with the Northern fleet, 1941-1945. After the war, commander of a destroyer, and Chief-of-staff of the Black Sea fleet, 1955-1960.
Professor at the USSR Navy Academy, 1960-1965. 1st Deputy Commander, 1965-1968, and Commander of the Black Sea fleet, 1968-1974. Head of the Naval Academy from March 1974.
