Director, Institute of Russia Language, USSR Academy of Science, since 1958. Chief Editor, journal “Voprosy yazykoznaniya” (Problems of Linguistics), since 1951. Chairman, Soviet Committee of Slavists, since 1956.

Specialist in linguistics and hist, of Russia literature language. 1954 headed Soviet delegation at Berlin International Congress of Slavists. 1955 attended International Conference of Slavists in Belgrade.

1955-1960 Chairman, International Committee of Slavists. 1958 Chairman, 9th International Congress of Slavists in Moscow. Deputy, Russian Soviet Federated Socialist Republic Supreme Soviet of 1951 and 1955 convocation.

Member, Soviet Committee the Defense of Peace. Member, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Honoured Doctor of Prague University.
