From 1888 intern, then associate professor, A A. Ostroumov’s Clinic. 1892 defended doctor’s thesis on the effect of Koch’s tuberkoulin on nitrogen metabolism and tissue matter. 1901-1909 professor, Chair of Special Pathology and Therapy, Moscow University.
From 1911 lectured on clinical aspects and pathogenesis of tuberculosis. 1921 professor, Chair of Tuberculosis, Medical Faculty, Moscow University. From 1921 founder-director, State Tuberculosis Institute (now Institute of Tuberculosis, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Medical Sciences).
Contributed new insights on development and treatment of tuberculosis. Company-founder and life chairman, AllRussian Tuberculosis League. Consultant, Tuberculosis Department and member, Learned Medical Council, Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic People's Commissariat of Health.
