DERMANIS, Vilis was born on May 28, 1875 in village Bukashi, Latin Son of a peasant.
1897 graduate teachers’ seminary, Kuldiga.
Worked as teacher and helped found the first Marxist circles in Latin 1902-1903 member, Central Committee and Riga Coml, Baltic Latin Social-Democratic Workers’ organisation. 1904-1907 Party posts in Riga, Saratov and Saint St. Petersburg.
Took part in 1905-1907 Revol. 1907 sentenced to hard labor. 1914 escaped to United States of America; 1920 returned to Latin
From 1919 contributed to Communist publication 1920-1921 represented Latin Social-Democratic Party in Constituent Assembly and Riga City Duma. Helped to organize Latin trade unions.
Represented his Party as delcg to Stockholm and London Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Congresses. 1922 arrested for Communist activities and deported to Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic. 1923-1938 lecturer at Moscow higher educational establishments, Communist University of Western Peoples and at an Indiana Teachers’ Training Institute.
Early 1920's began to work as lit critic. Arrested by State Security organs.
