Studied at private schools, Brisbane. Spent some years acquiring experience in the management of stock and stations, subsequently turned his attention to banking, and devoted 17 years to that occupation.
Joined a mercantile firm in Townsville, 1879. Now managing partner in firm of Aplin, Brown, and Crawshaw, Ltd., of Brisbane and Townsville. Represented Townsville in the Legislative Assembly, 1885 and 1891.
Retired, 1893. Member Legislative Council since 1901.
