Career
He is best known for his statues of Shivaji. A museum has been set up at his house in Sasavne village near Alibag.His father was a farmer. In the village of Saswane a Shilpalaya is in the name of Vinayak. he was fond of making sculptures right from his childhood.
He made a picture of Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Ram temple in his village.
At that time Otto rothfield was the district collector of Saswane. He admitted Vinayak to J J college in Mumbai.
Then Karmarkar acquired the first rank there. He undertook a study tour several times.
The most famous among his other sculptures are "Shankha-Dhwani", "Matsya-kanya" and "Humjoli".
His style was realistic.
