Conigliaro graduated from Gonzaga College in Palermo with a bachelor's degree in 1946. He earned his doctorate at Palermo Medical School in 1951, and in 1953, he received his Master of Science degree from Milan Neuropsychiatric Institute.
Conigliaro also holds a certificate in Psychoanalysis and Psychotherapy of 1963 from Postgraduate Center for Mental Health in New York City.
Conigliaro devoted his career to teaching psychiatry at Fordham University in New York City. He started in 1961 and worked there until his retirement. He also taught at seminaries and medical centres and was a consultant to Academy of the Sacred Heart and to Roman Catholic religious orders.
