Career
When he came back to his motherland in 1964 he began to work as a controller of the production delivery in the Mexican branch of the Coca-Cola Company. His capacity for work, good organizational skills and other business qualities ensured Fox’s successful promotion. In 1970 he took the position of the company’s marketing director and in 1975 he became the president of its Mexican branch.
After 15 years of successful work Fox lives the company. The reason for that was his father’s death. He and his brother, being the testamentary hairs, create their own production and trading agricultural “Fox” group (its logo was crossed cowboy boots “Vaqueros” that were exported).
In 1979-1988 Vicente Fox takes the position of the Chief Executive on the “Fox” branches strategic planning and, at the same time, he is the councilor of the Mexican-American Board of Trade.
In 1988 he began his political career as an activist of the right-of-center Party of the National Action (NAP). After his being elected a deputy, Vicente Fox stood against the corruption in the leading at that time Institutional Revolution Party (IRP) and in the governmental structures. He became famous as a true proponent of the development of the small and middle business and competitive agriculture.
In 1991 Fox participated in the elections for the position of the governor of the Guanajuato State, but he failed. In 1995 he showed his persistence and consistency when he ran for the governor for the second time and won with a big advantage.
In 1999 the union “Alliance for the Changes” that was joined not only by the NAP, but also by the Ecologic Green Party of Mexico, nominated him for the post of the President. His electioneering was all about the democratization of the country, fighting against 70 years of the IRP’s hegemony, corruption eradication and entrepreneurship support.
During the presidential elections that took place on July 2, 2000 Vicente Fox won and on December 1 took up his post as the Head of the country.
