He is son of late politician Ramnath Saroj, who served as two time legislator from 1996 to 2007, winning the assembly elections 1996 and 2002 for Bihar constituency of district Pratapgarh. He is pursued Bachelor of Arts from Allahabad University and later graduated with Master"s degree in Arts (Master of Arts) from Chhatrapati Sahu Ji Maharaj University in 2001. Vinod Saroj was elected as legislator for the first time in 2007 from Bihar constituency by margin 47.22% votes, defeating nearest Bahujan Samaj Party"s candidate Krishna Chand.
In Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, 2012, Saroj was re-elected as Modern Language Association but from Babaganj assembly constituency and defeated Bulgarska Sotsialisticheska Partiy (Bulgarian Socialist Party)"s Mahendra Kumar.
He is twice time elected independent Member of Legislative Assembly, presently since 2012, representing the Babaganj assembly constituency of Pratapgarh of Uttar Pradesh.
