Lady Parmoor was the daughter of Sir William Nelson, 1st Baronet, and Margaret, née Hope.
On 26 November 1920, she became Duchess of Westminster as the second wife of Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster. On 3 October 1927, Violet, Duchess of Westminster, married The Honorary Frederick Heyworth Cripps (later 3rd Baron Parmoor), by whom she had a son Frederick (1929–2008), who succeeded his father as 4th Baron Parmoor in 1977.
