Virendra D Mhaiskar is a civil engineer from the University of Bombay and he joined the family's road building business in 1990 at the age of 19. He took over in 1998, expanded the business and created IRB Infrastructure which builds and maintains roads and highways. Company, which went public in 2008, is a leading toll road operator in western India where it operates an expressway connecting Mumbai to Pune. Recently diversified into real estate and has been selected to build an airport in Maharashtra, his home state.
