He may be best known for his portrayal of Maulana Azad, a leading figure of the Indian independence movement, in the 1982 biographical film, Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough. He also appeared in the Indian television series, Mahabharat, playing the role of Vidura. Razdan"s father was a Sufi musician.
He studied acting and theater at the National School of Drama in New Delhi, where he was a student of Ibrahim Alkazi.
Virendra Razdan died in Mumbai, India, on 13 June 2003, at the age of 53.
