Virginia Lynn Fry was born on March 20, 1952 Wichita Falls, Texas, United States. She is a daughter of Collin Fry, an artist, and Colleen Fry (maiden name Colligan).
Virginia Lynn Fry was trained first as a nurse, then as an artist.
She received a Bachelor of General Studies degree at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Illinois, and a Master of Arts in Counseling from Norwich University in Northfield, Vermont.
Virginia Lynn Fry started her career as a full-time artist working on commissioned murals and other artworks in Boston. After her brother's death in an accident in 1979 at the age of twenty-one, she commenced using painting to express her grief. It was then when Fry developed an idea to combine medicine and art. This led her to hospice work where she could realize her plans to apply human creativity as a method to help people survive various life crises.
In 1985, Virginia Lynn Fry headed Central Vermont Home Health & Hospice. She has served there as the Bereavement Coordinator and continues clinical practice there. She also directs the Hospice & Palliative Care Council of Vermont and gives consultations to the Departments of Children & Families, Disabilities and Independent Living, and Education for the State of Vermont.
Fry shares her experience on teaching grief counseling strategies at several state colleges, including Woodbury College in Montpelier. She shares her knowledge organizing several workshops around the country and as a national public speaker.

1995Virginia Lynn Fry was married twice. Her first husband became Bruce Weinberg. They divorced in June 1983. Two years, on August 25, she married, a university administrator, Mark Fitzsimmons. They have three children - Liam, Dylan, and Emma.
