She appeared in over 20 films during the 1940s. She immediately secured a contract with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, but let her contract expire in 1945 to sign with Columbia Pictures. She quickly became known to matinee audiences at the time for co-starring in four of the Durango Kid films.
She also has a supporting role in The Mating of Millie starring Glenn Ford and Evelyn Keyes.
After her time with Columbia, Hunter worked as a model and a store manager. She died on 23 March 2012 aged 92.
