Vishwanath "Nana" Patekar is an Indian actor and filmmaker. He is often touted as the most controversial actor in Bollywood for his dialogues and acting styles. Apart from acting, Nana Patekar has also achieved recognition as a film maker. One of his first movie to hit the screens was ‘Prahar: The Final Attack’ which had Madhuri Dixit in its ranks. Nana Patekar is also known for the generous donations he makes for the poor and the needy.
Background
Vishwanath Patekar was born on first of January, 1951 to the Bhandari family. He started his journey in the film industry in 1974 with his film "Garman", directed by Muzaffar Ali. He came into the limelight after his tremendous acting as a villain in the film ‘Parinda’ (1989). his film brought him appreciation from around the industry. Nana Patekar has donned various types of roles in numerous movies throughout his career in the film industry.

Career
Patekar has played many types of roles. He has played the occasional villain but been a hero in most of his films. Apart from dramatics, he also had a talent in sketching and has helped the Mumbai police in several occasions. He also did some playback singing in the films "Yeshwant", "Wajood" and "Aanch".
Politics
Patekar said he had received several offers to join politics but he had refused since it was not his field. He states that a person should be bestowed with voting rights depending upon his or her duration of stay at a place.
