Vital Tsvirka was the painter in the genre of landscape and he is considered a pioneer in the creation of special type of epic, lyric and heroic landscape unknown to Belarusian art vefore.
Background
Vital was born on the 1st of February 1913 in the village Radzeeva, Budakashaleva District, Gomel Region into the family of village teachers. The parents possesed a good library, his father was interested in art and there were a lot of reproductions of the Itinerants (V. Petrov, I. Repin) at home.
Education
In 1929, Vital graduated from Minsk School. From 1929 to 1932, V. Tsvirka studied at Vitebsk Art Training College (nowadays Vitebsk State College of Arts and Culture). In 1935, he entered Moscow State Art Institution under the guidance of famous Russian lasndscape painters S. Gerasimov, G. Ryazhsky, P. Pokarzhevsky, B. Ioganson, A. Deineka, I. Grabar.
Career
During studies at university, Vital created a series of sketches. V. Tsvirka depicted peculiarity of southern nature in them: "Morning in a Kishlak"; "On a Donkey"; "Uzbek Courtyard". From 1948-1953, he taught drawing, painting and composition at Minsk Art College (nowadays Minsk State Art College named after A. Glebov), in 1956-1963 V. Tsvirka was the head of the Painting Department in the Belarusian Theatrical and Artistic Institution. In 1958, he was appointed rector of the Belarusian Theatrical and Artistic Institution (nowadays Belarusian State University of Culture and Arts).
In the middle of the 1950s he experienced a new creative rise due to general changes in the social and artistic spheres of life in the country.The painting "At the Watermill", 1954 could be called such a turning point in his creative work. From 1961-1967, Vital was the Secretary of the Board of the USSR Union of Artists and from 1962 to 1963 V. Tsvirka was the Chairman of the Board of the USSR Union of Artists.
V. Tsvirka created many landscapes that became classics of Belarusian painting: "Braslav", 1966; "In Pesky", 1966; "Homeland", 1968; "Zaslavl", 1974, etc. In the 1980s he took a great interest in the genre of still life which greatly enriched his experimental creative work. Still lives were full of intimacy and coziness notwithstanding epic emotional compositional solutions: "Still Life with a Vase. Autumn Motif"; Still Life with a Mirror".
V. Tsvirka's landscapes in watecolours are distinguished by incredible freedom of technique and singularity of images: "Late Autumn", "Thaw", 1975; "Logoisk Area", First Greenery", 1980, etc.
Membership
He was a member of the Organizational Committee of the USSR Union of Artists (1933), Moscow section of the USSR Union of Artists and Belarus Union of Artists.
