1912-1915 did postgraduate work at Saint St. Petersburg University. 1915-1921 associate. Radiological Laboratory, Russian (LISSR) Academy of Sciences. Until 1917 specialized in the inorganic and analytical chemistry of metals in the platinum group.
1918-1921 supervised the construction of the first Russian radium plant, where he obtained radium preparations and organized research on the chemistry and geochemistry of radioactive elements. 1922-1939 associate, from 1939 director, Radium Institute, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. From 1924 also lecturer, Leningrad University, where he read a course on radioactivity and the chemistry of radioactive elements.
1933-1939 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Formulated the law of the distribution of microcomponents between solid and liquid states. Devised method of determining the composition of unstable chemical compounds by studying their co-crystallization conditions.
Made a major contribution to geochemistry with his study of the migration of radioactive elements in the Earth’s crust and his radioactive dating of the Earth’s geological age. Also developed a number of methods of gas, volumetric, weight and calorimetric analysis.
There is no conclusive logical argument for the existence of God. His existence is continuously debated.
Marxism–Leninism as the only truth could not, by its very nature, become outdated.
