Vladas LASHAS, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Physiologist. professor from 1926; Honorary Sciences Worker of Lith Soviet Socialist Republic from 1945. member, Lith Academy of Sciences from 1946; correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Medical Sciences from 1948.
Education
1918 graduate Medical Faculty Tartu University.
Career
1922-1925 assistant professor, then associate professor, and 1926-1950 professor, Chair of Physiology Medical Faculty, Kaunas University. 1946-1962 acad secretary, Department of Natural Sciences, Lith Academy of Sciences 1950-1966 head, Chair of Physiology, Kaunas Medical Institute. Cofounder, Medical Faculty, Kaunas University and several chairs and laboratories.
Did research on anaphylaxis and anaphylactic shock and on problems of nutrition. Devised method of determining the resorption of native proteins from the intestine. Made detailed study of various desensitizers and their afficacy.
Defined the concept of anaphylactic incubation and did research on the reflector phase of anaphylactic shock. Also studied the antigen-antibody reaction phase. Company-ed, physiology section, “BoVshaya meditsinskaya entsiklopediya" (Large Medical Encyclopedia) (2nd ed).
