Explored swamplands in Transcaucasia, Siberia, European Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic and Belorussian, et cetera Catalogued their precise characteristics. Developed method of studying the connection betw'ecn the flora, water conditions and geological structure of swamps and the chemical composition of peat.
Introduced method of pollen analysis and studying distribution of pollen of arboreal plants in peat, et cetera Examined stratigraphy of swamps, vegetation of interglacial deposits, buried peats. 1908 visited Japan, 1910 Finland, 1925 and 1929 Sweden, 1925 Norway, 1928-1929 Germany, 1928 Czechoslovakia and 1928-1929 Poland.
Took part in 4th and 5th International Botanico-Geographical Expeditions. Member, comt which founded International Association of Swamp Specialists. Chairman, Commission for Swamp Research, International Association of Soil Scientists.
