Studied at Saint St. Petersburg Conservatory (piano under A. Vinkler and L. Nikolayev, counterpoint and fugue under A. Lyadov and L. Nikolayev, harmony under V. Kalafati, instrumentation under M. Shtcynberg, musical form under I. Vitol’).
1914-1917 in Tsarist Army. 1917-1919 secretary, Musical Education Committee in Yelizavetgrad. 1920 founder, teacher and director, Sevastopol' People's Conservatory and Choir.
1922 head, Ukraine institutions of musical educational. 1923-1933 teacher, Leningrad musical technicums. Musical director at various theaters (Red Theater, Working Youth Theater, etc).
During World War 2 stayed in besieged Leningrad. Works', opera Lyod i stal’ (Ice and Steel) (1930). Musical comedy Druzhnaya gorka (The Friendly Hill) (1929).
Ballets Krasnyy vikhr’ (Red Whirlwind) (1924). Dzhebella (1926) Bela (1941). Skazka o myortvoy tsarevne i o semi bogatyryakh (Talc of the Dead Princess and the Seven Heroes) (1949).
