He studied with André Pirro at the Schola Cantorum de Paris and studied composition privately with Paul Vidal.
Career
Emigrated, 1922. Settled in Paris. Librarian at Sorbonne University, 1933-1943. Chief librarian of the Music Department of the Bibliotheque Nationale from 1946.
General Secretary, 1950-1955, and later Vice-President of the International Association of Music Libraries. From 1954, editor of Fontes Artis Musicae. From 1965, President of the International Music Union.
