Full member, USSR Academy of Science, since 1939; Professor, Leningrad University, since 1932; associate, Institute of Physical Problems, USSR Academy of Science, since 1954. three Order of Lenin (3rd in 1958); Order of Red Banner of Labor; medals; Stalin Prize, 1946; Lenin Prize, 1960.

Graduated from Petrograd University, 1922.
Career
1922-1932 postgrad, student, Petrograd (now Leningrad) University. 1919-1923 and 1928-1941 simultaneously associate, State Optical Institute. 1924-1936 at Leningrad Physicotechn.
Institute; 1932-1939 corresponding member, USSR Academy of Science. 1934-1941 and 1944-1953 associate, Physics Institute, USSR Academy of Science. Principal works deal with quantum mechanics, quantum electrodynamics, light diffraction theory, radio-wave propagation, general theory of relativity, mathematics and mathematical physics.
