During World War consultant, various military hospitals in Leningrad. Did important research on atypical inflammatory epithelization and metaplasia of the epithelium. Discovered the role of these processes in the rejection of foreign and decayed matter.
Studied lesions of the epithelium of the trachea and bronchi due to foreign bodies and to A-avitaminosis. Also studied delayed wound healing and the effects of x-rays on inflammatory processes (e.g. the inhibitory effect of certain dosages on phagocytosis and granulation). Compiled reference material on alimentary dystrophy and tuberculosis from the files of the Leningrad Dissection Laboratory as well as valuable material on leptospirotic jaundice, gunshot osteomyelitis and the nature and function of inflammatory process.
