Vice-president of the USSR Academy of Sciences, 1970. Many decorations: Stalin Prize, Lenin Prizes and medals. Academician and chairman of Intercosmos, the Soviet International Space Office throughout the 1980s.
Acts as a link between the Soviet government and scientists in the USSR.
