1902-1938 taught at Saint St. Petersburg (Leningrad) Polytech Institute. 1903-1905 did research on the nature of electr arcs. Together with A. I. Gorbov devised method of oxidizing nitrogen with air.
1906-1912 lecturer, Saint St. Petersburg Higher Women's Courses. 1910 proposed use of split w'iring for high-tension power lines. During 1920 s worked for Special Technical Bureau of Military Inventions.
Together with engineering V. I. Bekauri developed "BEMI” remote-controlled detonator, which was adopted by Red Army in 1929. 1939-1944 head, Department of Theoretical Electr Engineer, Krzhizhanovskiv Power Engineer Institute, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences. Helped draft plan for the electrification of Russia.
1940-1942 head, Electr Communications Section, Department of Technical Sciences, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences, devised new concept of electromagnetic field
