Petrovskii, Vladimir was born on April 29, 1933 in Volgograd.


Graduated from the Moscow MGIMO (Institute of International Relations), 1957.


Doctor of historical sciences. Professor. Began as a lecturer, translator, and attache with the Soviet Delegation to the United Nations, 1957-1961.3rd Secretary in the MID (Ministry of Foreign Affairs), 1961.2nd Secretary in the Secretariat of A. Gromyko, 1961-1964. With the Committee for Political Problems and Security of the Secretariat at the United Nations, 1964-1971.

Senior adviser, chief adviser, and head of the USA Department of the MID, 1971-1979. Head of the Department of International Organizations of the MID, 1979-1986. Deputy Foreign Minister of the USSR from May 1986.
