Vladimir Shahrin was born in 1959.
In 1976 he graduated from secondary school No. 36. After leaving school, Shahrin studied at the Sverdlovsk building-trade secondary school. In 1981 he graduated from the Sverdlovsk building-trade secondary school.
In 1981-1988 he worked as an assembler in CD-20 of Sverdlovsk house-building factory. The first concert of the band under the sign "Chaif" was held on September 29, 1985 in the Palace of Culture of the MJC. This day is considered the birthday of the group "Chaif".
Currently, the group has released 19 albums, there were concerts in many places of Russia, in Kazakhstan, Czech Republic, Italy, Great Britain, and some concerts during the war in Chechnya and Tajikistan, etc.
In 1978, Shahrin and Begunov joined the army, served in the checkpoint in the Far East.
In the early 1980s, Shahrin began inditing songs, and in 1985 the group "Chaif" (original name "Chai-F") came into being, consisting of Vladimir Shakhrin, Vadim Kukushkin, Oleg Reshetnikov and Vladimir Begunov. The first concert took place on September 29, 1985 in the Palace of Culture of the Youth Residential Complex.
In 1985, the band recorded their debut double album "Life in the Pink Smoke". Early next year, Chaif wrote an album "Saturday evening in Sverdlovsk."
In June 1986, the band featured at the first festival in rock club of Sverdlovsk, and the band was invited to Leningrad. In 1987, two new albums were released -
"Der’montin" and "Diddly-squat", which became the first official albums of the band.
In 1990, the first vinyl disc was released in the record label «Melodiya» in Leningrad – it was the album "Do not worry".
In the mid-1990s, the band toured a lot, recorded new albums - "Children of the mountains" (1993), "Let it be as you want" (1995), "Orange mood" (1994-1996), made several music video. "Chaif" is a participant of many festivals and concerts ("Maxidrome", "Aurora", "Rock against terror").
In August 1997, Chaif made several concerts in London: in Concert Hall «Astoria», acoustic - on a live program of Seva Novgorodtsev "Crop rotation" on the BBC and at the Russian embassy.
His fifteenth birthday, "Chaif" began to celebrate long before the date, and February 19, 2000 a performance in the "Olympic" took place to a full house. The release of the album "Sympathies" was confined to the concert. In album were covers for the favorite songs of Russian rock bands and individual musicians in the rendition of the group "Chaif".
In 2006, Vladimir Shahrin's book "Open Files" was issued.
