From 1911 studied at Saint St. Petersburg Polytech Institute. During World War 1 attended cadet college.
From 1917 in 12th Army on Western Front. Attended 1st and 2nd All-Russian Congresses of Soviets. Active in 1917 October Revol.
January 1918 sent by Party to Vladivostok to become secretary, Executive Committee, Vladivostok Soviet. June 1918 arrested by Czechoslovakian Legion and interned in concentration camp. August 1919 escaped from camp.
Edited illegal Bolshevik newspaper “Kommunist” and engaged in party political work with partisan units. 1919 military comissar, Vladivostok Garrison. 1920 member, Military Council, Maritime Oblast former local government authority Administrator
Captured by Japanese occupation forces.
