GURIY, Vyacheslav was born in 1891.
1915 took monastic orders under name of Guriy and ordained priest-deacon, then priest-monk. 1917 treasurer, Aleksandr Nevskiy Monastery (Petrograd). 1922 ordained archimandrite.
From 1925 father superior, Monastery’s Anchorite Section and head, Theological Pastoral College. From 1928 father superior, Kiev Monastery' Church in Leningrad. 1929 arrested and imprisoned in a forced labor camp.
Subsequently exiled to Northern Kray. 1944 appointed dean, Samarkand Pokrov Cathedral and acting secretary, Eparchial Council, Tashkent Eparchy. 1945 helped restore Troitsa-Sergicv Monastery in Zagorsk.
1945-1946 father superior of this monastery. 1946 Bishop of Tashkent and Centr Asia. 1952 consecrated Archbishop.
1953 Archbishop of Saratov. 1954 Archbishop of Chernigov and Nezhin. 1955 Archbishop of Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye.
1959 consecrated Metropolitan of Minsk and Belorussian. 1960 Metropolitan of Leningrad and Ladoga and permanent member, Holy Synod, Moscow Patriarchate. Organized clergy congresses in Kir and Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic.
1954 assisted in return to Chernigov of the relics of Street Feodosiy, which until then had been displayed at Leningrad Anti-Religious Museum.
